# Your first setup

This guide walks you through install to a working register. Follow the steps below to take your first order on Shopify POS.

## Install Dash

1. Open [Dash in the Shopify App Store](https://apps.shopify.com/dash-2) and click **Install**.
2. Review the subscription and confirm the 21-day trial at $25 per location.

## Connect a location

1. In Shopify admin, go to **Apps > Dash > Settings > Locations**.
2. Connect a location you already have in Shopify.

## Create a Size set

1. Go to **Modifier Sets** and click **Create**.
2. Create a **Single Choice** modifier set and add the options on that same form.
3. Name it Size. Add Small, Medium, and Large. Leave extra price at 0.00 if size is free.
4. Click **Save**.

## Create a menu

1. Go to **Menus** and click **Create**. Name it Main Menu.
2. Assign this menu to that location so it shows on the register.
3. Add a category, for example Coffee.
4. Choose a drink or food item from your catalog.
5. Attach the set from the product in the category. Save once.

## Open Shopify POS

1. Open Shopify POS on the device you use at the register.
2. Tap **Dash**. You should see the menu you just built.

## Turn on the kitchen display

1. In Dash admin, go to **Settings > KDS** and enable it.
2. Copy the KDS link and open it in a browser.

With KDS on, the register uses tickets. After you add items you can send them to the Shopify cart, to the kitchen screen, or both. See Using the KDS.
